Scented Moisturizer: Good or Bad? Our Cosmetic Dermatologists in OC Discuss

Question: “I’m going to buy a new moisturizer that smells like cucumber, watermelon, cinnamon, or raspberries.”

That’s a BAD IDEA, I frequently hear. While they might smell good, products with strong fragrances are not good for your skin. Scented products contain chemicals that can dry out and irritate your skin. Fragrances account for 11.7% of all allergic skin rashes known as contact dermatitis.

Our OC Cosmetic Dermatologists warn you not to be fooled by unscented moisturizers

But don’t think that choosing a product advertised as “unscented” will solve the problem. Unscented products often contain a fragrance developed to mask the others.

What products can you use then? Find out by reading Dr. Tony Nakhla’s book, The Skin Commandments: 10 Rules to Healthy, Beautiful Skin. Available for purchase on Amazon.com. A great summer read!
